About SURG

Studies by Undergraduate Researchers at Guelph (SURG, pronounced "surge") is a refereed, multi-disciplinary electronic journal that publishes research articles by University of Guelph undergraduate students. Developed through co-operation of the University's Office of Research and the McLaughlin Library, SURG is an open-access journal, available for free to everyone with access to the Internet.

The mission of SURG is to provide undergraduate students with exposure to the academic publication process. To this end, the journal accepts original research articles and reviews, primarily based on summer work and fourth year thesis and research courses. Submissions are welcomed and encouraged from all disciplines represented at the University of Guelph.

Are you an undergraduate researcher at Guelph? Check out the author guidelines to see how you can submit your work to be published in SURG. Departments and faculty should review this document to see how they can participate. Questions may be directed to surg@uoguelph.ca.

About Undergraduate Journals

Undergraduate research journals (search) have been developed to involve undergraduates in the academic publication process and provide them with a means to publish work that might not meet the requirements of mainstream academic journals. Undergraduates are involved at all levels, as editors, reviewers, authors, and readers. A unique feature of many undergraduate journals is their multi-disciplinary nature. Few other journals provide readers with the opportunity to learn about subjects ranging from anthropology to zoology. SURG supports this ideal, and the journal will reflect the diversity of scholarship taking place at the University of Guelph.
